Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, the third edition of Al Dhafra Camel Racing Festival kicks off today, Thursday. Organized by the Emirates Camel Racing Federation.
The festival will run through 4 days at Madinat Zayed Camel racecourse , it includes of 107 rounds for Al Haqaeq, Laqaya, and Ezaa categories, with camels competing for 24 symbols, 8 symbols for each category.
The organizing committee has allocated cash and prizes for the winners, the thing which impacted positively the number of camel owners participating in the festival.
Al Haqaeq category kicks off the festival’s competitions with 24 morning races for a distance of 3 kilometers. The winner of each race receives AED 30,000, in addition to cash prizes up to 10 places . The evening race will feature 10 additional races, including 4 symbols in the main races for Al Haqaeq young camels, open Qadaan, and production. Cash prizes for the winners range between AED 500,000 and AED 400,000.
The second day of the festival will feature 17 Al Haqaeq races in the evening, with participating camels competing for 4 symbols: the Cup and the Gun for young camels, open Qadaan, and production.
The Laqaya category will compete next Saturday over 22 morning races and 8 symbol races in the evening.
The festival concludes Sunday with Al Ezaa category competitions for 18 rounds in the morning, and 8 symbols rounds in the evening, with 4 symbols for young camels, open mounts, and local camels, and 4 symbols for the production category.
